Summer 2023 Youth Zine
Creative Guts Zines
Fall 2024 Zine: Love Letter to a Place
Creative Guts is thrilled to present our Fall 2024 Zine: Love Letter to a Place!

On the podcast, we often ask our guests to share the most inspiring location they’ve visited. Sometimes the answers are far-away destinations elsewhere in the world, but other times, the answers are a little closer to home. Whether you find inspiration in New Hampshire’s North Country, the coast of Maine, or the streets of Italy, we love to hear about it.
Given the importance of our location in the world, we thought “Love Letter to a Place” was a perfect theme for our fall zine this year. In this zine, the written and visual works of 21 creatives allow us a peek into the hearts of creatives as they share the places that inspire, the places with significant personal meaning, or the places that they simply love.
Thank you to Creative Co-op, a strategic communications firm based in Exeter, for sponsoring this zine. Without their support, this zine would not have been possible. Learn more about Creative Co-op at www.creativeco-op.com.

This is Creative Guts’ fourth youth zine — sixth, if we include the two special edition zines featuring the poetry of students at Exeter High School. One of the best parts of the youth zine is seeing the growth of the artists who submit year after year. While you, the reader, may not notice the repeat artists, we do! A special thank you to all the young people (and their parents) who submitted their work to the 2024 youth zine and youth zines of years past!
All of the art and writing featured in this zine come from young people between the ages of two and 18. While many of the artists and writers featured in this zine come from New England, we’re pleased to include young people in Texas and even France, too! This zine includes a wide array of mediums from pencil, pen, crayon, and marker drawings to watercolor and acrylic paint, to clay, poetry, photography, and chalk!

SPECIAL ZINE EDITION:
Slam Free and Fly Poetry at Exeter High School
Creative Guts was honored to be invited to emcee the annual Slam Free and Fly poetry event at Exeter High School on February 16, 2024. The evening was rich with original poetry from freshmen students participating in the Arts in Action project, a school-to-community partnership supported and funded by the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts.

This zine contains original poetry from 20 young gutsy people. These recitations represent some classroom favorites, as well as some reciters who returned to the stage from Slam Free or Fly in years past. Throughout this project, students are challenged to consider what change they want to see in the world and how they can affect that change.

Creative Guts is endlessly impressed by young creatives, like those featured in this zine who bravely took the Exeter High School stage and shared their thoughts on love, life, death, and more. What better way to continue to celebrate their work than with a zine! It’s rarely easy to bare your soul under a spotlight, but these students (many of whom recited their poems from memory) showed everyone their creative guts.

SPECIAL EDITION: Kaleidoscope Exhibition
at the Rochester Museum of Fine Arts
It’s no secret that Creative Guts loves color, so when we had an opportunity to partner with the Rochester Museum of Fine Arts to curate an exhibition, we knew the theme would be colorful. With Kaleidoscope, we wanted the viewer to be engulfed in every color as they moved through the exhibition. With our fingers crossed, we put the call for art into the world. Kaleidoscope didn’t disappoint!
It seemed natural that Creative Guts would memorialize Kaleidoscope in the form of a zine! This zine contains art from 27 local artists. While a handful hail from Maine, Massachusetts, and New York, the majority of artists featured in this zine reside in New Hampshire. Thank you and congratulations to the artists featured in this special edition zine.
Creative Guts is grateful to our friends in Rochester at the Museum of Fine Arts for their work pulling this show together. If you’re not familiar, the RMFA is an all-volunteer, community art initiative dedicated to the accessibility of contemporary works made by regionally, nationally, and internationally recognized artists. Like Creative Guts, the RMFA feels strongly that art is for everyone. The permanent collection and other rotating exhibitions are on display in the James W. Foley Memorial Community Center and at the Rochester Public Library.

Summer 2023 Youth Zine
Every summer when we put together the youth zine, we’re reminded why this zine is one of our favorites. We like to imagine the creatives featured in this zine, someday in the distant future, digging through an old box and stumbling upon this zine. For some, this may be the only time their work has been published (that’s OK, and we’re honored you allowed us to share your work). But for others, this could be the first of many times!
In this zine, you’ll find art created by young people ranging from 13 months old to 17 years old. The artists and writers featured in this zine come from all over the world representing three countries and five U.S. states. This zine includes a wide array of mediums from digital art, printmaking, poetry, clay, and paint to crayon, pencil, marker, food paint, and even sugar and “googly eyes”.
Creative Guts’ mission is about awakening creativity within people of all ages, but we have a soft spot for young people. We’re proud to present to you art created by these gutsy young people.

Slam Free and Fly Poetry at Exeter High School
Creative Guts was honored to be invited to emcee the annual Slam Free and Fly poetry event at Exeter High School on February 17, 2023. Thank you for your support, Little River Oriental Rugs!
Creative Guts is thrilled to present the Fall 2022 Zine! The digital edition is free and a limited amount of printed copies are available for sale through our online store.

What’s your favorite color? This is a question we ask guests on the podcast every episode. Blue, of the three primary colors in the RYB color model, is the most common favorite color in the world. That’s understandable! Even Wikipedia says that blue has been an important color in art and decoration since ancient times. In this Zine, we wanted to see how artists and writers feature blue in their work. Whether it’s the color or one of the many emotions that blue can evoke.
This Zine is possible thanks to a couple incredible collaborators. Little River Oriental Rugs, based in Concord, NH, generously supported this Zine with a sponsorship — ensuring creatives would be able to participate in this edition for free! Guest juror, Angie Lane, the executive director of Red River Theatres and a member of Creative Guts’ Board of Directors, joined the team to review submissions for this edition. Others on the Board of Directors loaned their time to the project to make it a success!
We’re proud to feature the art of nearly thirty creatives, representing six countries and three U.S. states. As always, our mission is to awaken your creativity. As you browse through this Zine, we hope you are inspired by the artists and writers who bravely share their work with the world. Whether you’re located in New Hampshire or elsewhere in the world, we’re glad you found us.

The artists (ages 0 - 17) featured in this year’s youth zine come from all over the globe with eleven countries represented. The mediums featured in this year’s zine are diverse, too, spanning from written works, to visual art, to fashion!
Thank you to all the young creatives who submitted to our zine. We are honored to be presenting your amazing work and encourage you to keep showing the world your creative guts.

Creative Guts would like to thank Boys & Girls Club of Manchester and Kimball Jenkins for their partnership on this zine as well as the 2022 Youth Zine Celebration, which gives local zine participants an opportunity to connect with other young creatives for an art lesson, poetry, and celebrate the work they contributed.
This project was funded by a grant from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, which we are extremely grateful for.

Fall 2021 Zine: Nostalgia
Creative Guts is proud to present our our Fall 2021 zine, with the theme of Nostalgia!

It’s been an odd time for the world during the last year and half, and creatives are continually finding ways to process our new landscape. We believe harnessing sentimental associations of the past in creativity can help makers get through the tougher times the world has been experiencing of late. While the Creative Guts team knew we wanted to focus on a theme related to time for this edition of our zine, it wasn’t until our recent interview with digital artist, Jake Romano, that we realized Nostalgia was just the theme we were longing to pose to the world.

We'd like to give a special thank you to our guest juror Mike Durkee, the artist and owner of Durkish Delights Design Co., as well as a Creative Guts Board Member.
